Online Course: Family Farming in Latin America and the Caribbean, a Key Sector for Food Security

Family farming course LACThe Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) offers an online, self-learning course on "Family Farming in Latin America and the Caribbean, a Key Sector for Food Security" (Course code: AF201409). This is in relation to its mandate "to collaborate with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in the formulation and adoption of policies and programs to increase the production of goods and services from Family Farming in a sustainable manner and, thereby, contribute to the well-being of the rural families of the Region."

The 80-hour course consists of three modules that endeavors to "generate awareness and information in public managers, professionals and leaders of civil society that act at various levels with links to the public policies of Family Farming, to support the strengthening of the strategic sector for food security in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as to contribute to the eradication of hunger and rural poverty." Specifically, it aims to:

  • Contribute to the appropriation of key concepts associated with the family farming sector, through a pedagogical proposal that integrates knowledge and concrete experiences on family farming and
  • Facilitate spaces that allow the generation of synergies between the different regional, sub-regional and national networks existing within the framework of Family Farming and associated issues in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

The course runs until 31 December 2019.
